World AIDS Day – World AIDS Day was December 1st. Along with the paper chain project (24 334 link paper chains that were displayed at 24 places around town, representing the 8,000+ people who die each day due to AIDS). There was also a pannel discussion on November 27th and 29th; one was about AIDS in America and the other focused on international AIDS. The members of the SCC also be conducted The Condom Project in the Commons everyday last week from 10 till 2. The Condom Project was very successful; around 50 plus people stopped by each day. There is also an article in the December 5th issue of the "Volante" that discusses more infromation about the project. Water Challenge - The project will be held April 6 until April 19. Give it up and Give it away: This project was focused on individuals only drinking water for a 2 week period in order to foster personal change. The money that would have been used for all other beverages such as: Coffee, Tea,Juice, Alcohol, ETC. was collected and then donated to a nonprofit organization working to bring fresh clean water to the world.The organization we have chose is Blood: Water MissionFor more info website is http://www.theh20project.org
Pinwheels 4 Peace - September 21st was the International Day of Peace. CoffeeLoft.org celebrated by constructing Pinwheels for Peace. Each Pinwheel contained a personal message of peace from the person that constructed it. The pinwheels will soon be sent to children all over the world.
Shine A Light For Darfur – Labyrinth will be illuminated with luminaries. Walk the labyrinth and pray for peace in Sudan. The genocide taking place in Sudan might not be on the news every night but our brothers and sisters will be remember every week here in Vermillion.
