What is the Student Christian Community?
The goal of the residential membership is to promote emotional, cognitive, moral, and spiritual growth through the completion of peer ministry hours and by being an active part of a socially conscious community. CoffeeLoft.org will provide housing for up to 7 unmarried University of South Dakota students from August through May, living at 417 N. Pine,
sharing the first floor space with the CoffeeLoft.org campus ministry.

Each member of the SCC is encouraged to find at least one area of passion where
they would like to connect with the ministries of CoffeeLoft.org and their peers.
While working with a support team of CoffeeLoft.org board members, community
members and the director of CoffeeLoft.org, each SCC member is expected to use
their time both exploring their passion areas and planning programs/opportunities
for their peers to participate in.

The ministries of CoffeeLoft.org call for SCC members from these passion areas:
justice/diversity, service, coffee loft, hospitality/outreach, worship/seeking
opportunities, building upkeep and website design (see attached sheet for
descriptions of each passion area). All SCC members are expected to attend
monthly Coffee Lofts.

The students will also be required to attend church services 50% of the time,
attend a weekly meeting with the director of CoffeeLoft.org, a monthly residential
SCC meeting, a monthly meetings with your support team and a retreat in the fall.
The house will agree on a set of rules to be negotiated between CoffeeLoft.org and
the community by the beginning of the school year. A sample set of rules is
attached to this form. If a student is found to not be completing their SCC hours
or they are in gross negligence of the house rules they will be asked to find a new
residential situation.
There are many benefits to living the SCC, previous members have shared that
they have grown closer to God, others and their own self discovery. Activities
through the SCC offer an excellent opportunity for students to develop servant
leadership characteristics as well as organizational skills.
